The Tomb of Napoleon rests within the Musée de l'Armée, a museum located within Les Invalides in Paris, France.

History

Napoleon originally died on 5 May 1821 at Saint Helena, but his remains were taken to Les Invalides on 15 December 1840. The tomb itself was built by an architect named Visconti, and the body of the esteemed Emperor was placed within the red quartzite tomb on 2 April 1861. The surrounding marble floor is inscribed with twelve of Napoleon's most famous victories, and the encircling walls display sculptures representing the Napoleonic reign over France.
